A Story Behind the Process
Twenty years is easy to celebrate. What is harder to see is everything it took to get there. This 19 minute documentary follows brothers Nicku and Gopi as they reflect on two decades of building Unique Soundz Roadshow, from their beginnings in the British Punjabi events scene to an anniversary celebration in Dubai. Beneath the music, production and spectacle is a story about brotherhood, sacrifice, family and the resilience required to keep moving forward when walking away sometimes feels easier.
The Film
Who We Made It For
USR, Unique Soundz Roadshow, is a UK entertainment and event production company built by brothers Nicku and Gopi. Over two decades, they have grown from producing music and DJing events into delivering large-scale celebrations in the UK and internationally. Reaching twenty years meant more to them than another business anniversary. It was an opportunity to recognise the clients, family, team and wider industry that had helped them get there.
How It Began
The original brief was to create something that could celebrate USR's twentieth year and build towards a major two day anniversary event in Dubai. As we started talking to Nicku and Gopi, however, we realised the more interesting story wasn't simply how successful the business had become, but what that success had demanded from them. The project evolved from a celebration film into a documentary asking one central question: what does it take to still be standing after 20 years?
Behind the Lens
We followed the brothers beyond the finished events, filming interviews, family stories, planning meetings, international work and the preparations for Dubai, including a venue search that did not always go to plan.
Voices including Bobby Friction and DJ Bliss helped place their journey within the wider worlds of British Punjabi music, entertainment and Dubai's event scene, while quieter conversations revealed the long hours, pressure and time away from family behind the celebrations audiences normally see.
We filmed across the UK, Cannes and Dubai, deliberately balancing the scale of their work with moments of uncertainty and reflection so the finished piece would feel like a story rather than simply a showcase.
The Finished Film
The documentary became part of a wider campaign around USR's twentieth anniversary, alongside next day films we produced for both their Dubai welcome party and gala celebration. The social content generated hundreds of thousands of views, while the documentary itself reached a significant audience online and gave USR something more lasting than an anniversary promo: a record of where they came from and what it took to get there. The film was subsequently selected by the Wolverhampton Film Festival, where it went on to receive an award, bringing a story rooted in Wolverhampton onto the festival screen.
